We are so excited to be partnering with LF Markey, the colour loving, luxury brand for the elegant but practical woman. Inspired by workwear and utility and known for its use of bold and bright fabrics (and for many, the boiler suit!) Louise (a fellow antipodean), is a graduate from Central St Martins. She cut her teeth at labels including Burberry, Mira Mikati and Thomas Pink, before launching her eponymous label.
Thanks Louise!
Tell us a little about where you live, who you live with and why this is important to you.
I live in Stoke Newington, North East London with my husband and 3 sons. I love Hackney for its vibrancy and most of my London friends live there too. There is everything needed in Hackney, markets, coffee shops, nice restaurants, parks… and obviously our flagship stores, L.F.Markey and Meadows.
What does home mean to you?
For me at the moment it is wherever my family is.
When you are looking for a new home, what is the one thing that is a must-have?
Space for my children, for my husband and his record collection, for me and my home studio.
What do you do?
I am a designer and own L.F.Markey and Meadows which are two very different brands.
What made you end up in the career you have?
I have always been creative and I always knew that I wanted to work in this field. I thought I would be an architect but I realised I didn’t enjoy it as much as textiles and fashion design.
If money, skills, experiences or time weren’t a factor - what job would you do?
I’m lucky enough to be doing my dream job!
What is the best part of your job?
I get to express myself and love seeing people wearing my designs in the street and style them as their own.
What is the one luxury that money can’t buy?
Time
Name one everyday object that you can’t live without?
My phone, sadly
What plastic-free initiatives have you gotten behind?
All our packaging is plastic free.
What’s your 2021 sustainable pledge you’ve made?
We made a conscious decision to source sustainable fabrics and we are in the process of moving our products into Global Organic Textile Standard certified organic textiles.
What actions have you done recently to help your carbon footprint?
We are now using sea freight to ship our bulk orders
What is the first place you recommend to visitors that are coming to town?
My go-to’s are the Tate Modern and Fortnum and Mason’s for tourists!
Favourite shop/ place in your neighbourhood? And why?
I love Esters cafe in Stoke Newington as they have the best brunches, and Cafe Oto in Dalston for the music.
